Earlier today The Queen’s Baton Relay passed through North Tyneside and Northumberland! Its journey began at Spanish City in Whitley Bay, and from there it went along the Links and further north into Blyth.
By the end of its long journey (concluding in Birmingham) the Baton will have visited each of the 72 Commonwealth nations and territories. It’s a big event, and today marked a great occasion for those who carried it through our little part of the world.
In the words of Dame Lousie Martin, DBE, the Commonwealth Games Federation President, “The Queen’s Baton Relay symbolises hope, solidarity and collaboration across the Commonwealth at a time when it is needed most.” We couldn’t agree with this statement more, and we are extremely proud to have had the opportunity to go out and show our support for this fantastic event.
Of course we didn’t miss the opportunity to take lots of pictures from both locations, some of which we’ve featured below for you to enjoy!
