We were the first Solicitors Practice in Northumberland to be awarded the Lexcel Quality Standard back in 1998 — and one of the first firms in the North of England — and we have recently passed another audit, making this our 21st consecutive year.
Lexcel is a Quality Assurance standard for the legal profession and is intended to demonstrate to the outside world that we are a well managed, client-focused firm which invests in its people, its IT infrastructure, and has safeguards in place for the risks associated with the running of a Legal Practice. Continued accreditation is dependent on us undergoing an annual audit where an external assessor examines our systems and procedures, interviews our staff, and looks at a sample of client files to see if we ‘come up to scratch’.
Our systems relating to data protection came under close scrutiny this year given the introduction of the GDPR since our last audit, and the fundamental importance of protecting the sensitive data we process.
The Assessor was very pleased with the outcome of the assessment, and praised in particular our Office Manual (an internal document explaining our various policies, plans, and procedures) noting its accessibility and plain language.
For clients seeking practices that meet stringent standards of Client Care and Risk Management, the Lexcel badge is something to look out for.
